Quotes

I like quotes a lot, and since I am not great with words, I often use quotes from movies and other media to illustrate my point. So this is just a collection of quotes that I find, or use from time to time, that I like for whatever reason.

One of the biggest misnomers in sports is that you just get a basketball person and let him run it. There’s no other business in America that would get a salesperson to run it just because he was the best salesperson. - Mark Cuban, on hiring former basketball players as GM just because.

If Barack Obama is reading this, I hope he adds the following idea to his increasingly spectacular presidential campaign: ‘Every Super Bowl city is required to extend last call to at least 4 a.m. YES, WE CAN!’ - Bill Simmons on the 2 a.m. last call at bars in Arizona during Super Bowl XLII

Every day I come by your house and I pick you up. And we go out. We have a few drinks, and a few laughs, and it’s great. But you know what the best part of my day is? For about ten seconds, from when I pull up to the curb and when I get to your door, cause I think, maybe I’ll get up there and I’ll knock on the door and you won’t be there. No goodbye. No see you later. No nothing. You just left. I don’t know much, but I know that. - from Good Will Hunting, spoken by Ben Affleck’s character.

Nigel Tufnel: The numbers all go to eleven. Look, right across the board, eleven, eleven, eleven and…
Marty DiBergi: Oh, I see. And most amps go up to ten?
Nigel Tufnel: Exactly.
Marty DiBergi: Does that mean it’s louder? Is it any louder?
Nigel Tufnel: Well, it’s one louder, isn’t it? It’s not ten. You see, most blokes, you know, will be playing at ten. You’re on ten here, all the way up, all the way up, all the way up, you’re on ten on your guitar. Where can you go from there? Where?
Marty DiBergi: I don’t know.
Nigel Tufnel: Nowhere. Exactly. What we do is, if we need that extra push over the cliff, you know what we do?
Marty DiBergi: Put it up to eleven.
Nigel Tufnel: Eleven. Exactly. One louder.
Marty DiBergi: Why don’t you just make ten louder and make ten be the top number and make that a little louder?
Nigel Tufnel: [pause] These go to eleven.
